The Australian musician, conductor and mentor Brian Buggy has died.
Among those organisations expressing condolences were Sydney Youth Orchestras, with whom Buggy had a long association.
“Sydney Youth Orchestras was blessed to have Brian lead the SYO Philharmonic for 14 years, becoming our first Conductor Emeritus in 2021,” SYO said in a statement. “Brian will be remembered for his generosity, wit, vast musical knowledge, and passion for teaching, along with a love of a good piece of cake and a chat.”

Buggy’s career in music was a long and diverse one. Born and educated in Brisbane, he played trumpet in his own jazz band during his school days before winning a violin scholarship to the Queensland Conservatorium.
