Richard Morton Sherman, the celebrated American composer and lyricist who, along with his brother Robert B. Sherman, brought to life some of the most memorable music of the 20th century, passed away on May 27, 2024, at the age of 95.
His music has left an indelible mark on generations, encapsulating the magic and whimsy of childhood with songs he characterised as “upbeat, spirited, happy songs that make people feel good.”

Born on June 12, 1928 in New York City, Richard Sherman was the younger son of Rosa and Al Sherman, the latter a Tin Pan Alley songwriter. The Sherman family moved to Beverly Hills, California, in 1937, where Richard and Robert developed a keen interest in music and storytelling.
