The art of fusion

The Michelle Nicolle Quartet present “The Bach Project”, embracing the music of JS Bach in their signature chamber jazz style. Reimagining these masterworks, they interrogate the art of interpretation and improvisation, blurring the lines and disregarding the stylistic rulebooks, digging deep into the beauty, richness and grit of the music.

Bach’s Fugue in G minor intertwines with Thelonius Monk’s Round Midnight, March in D-major is woven into the style of early Ornette Coleman, bassist Tom Lee collaborates on the arrangement to fuse Horace Silver’s Lonely Woman with the Sarabande from Bach’s first Partita, and many more make up this unique set which transcends genre and language, beautifully bending space and time.
