Adelaide Symphony Orchestra: Born in Vienna: Concert 3

22 November 2025 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm ACDT

Chief Conductor Mark Wigglesworth curates a weekend celebrating Vienna’s role in shaping orchestral music. Concert 1 pairs Mozart’s Symphony No. 1 with Haydn’s Sinfonia Concertante and Beethoven’s bold First Symphony. Concert 2 features the Elder Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra in Beethoven’s Leonore Overture No. 3 and Mozart’s majestic Jupiter Symphony. The final concert contrasts Mozart’s Magic Flute Overture with Schubert’s monumental C major Symphony, The Great – a bridge from Classicism to Romanticism.

Limelight Editor’s Choice

Join us for a weekend of music curated by Chief Conductor, Mark Wigglesworth. Celebrating Vienna as the extraordinary birthplace of orchestral music as we know it, we hear Mozart’s first and last thoughts, Beethoven’s dramatic arrival onto the stage, and Schubert’s ‘Great’ C major Symphony, a work that sums up the Viennese classical tradition while simultaneously knocking on the door of the romanticism that took its place. Our concerts showcase some of the exceptional principal players of the ASO as well as an exciting new generation of musicians emerging from the Elder Conservatorium of Music.
