Melbourne Opera: Così Fan Tutte

Melbourne Opera remounts its 2025 production of Mozart’s bittersweet comedy for two performances only. Director Suzanne Chaundy reimagines Lorenzo Da Ponte’s 1790 Italian setting as a trip to 1960s Melbourne. Don Alfonso, here a cynical local bar and pizzeria owner on Lygon Street, challenges two young soldiers just back from Vietnam to test the fidelity of their Italian migrant girlfriends. Raymond Lawrence conducts the Melbourne Opera Chamber Orchestra and Chorus with a cast drawn from MO’s Richard Divall Emerging Artists Program.
