Woodend Winter Arts Festival: Jacqueline Ogeil performs Albero
6 June @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm AEST

The 18th-century Spanish composer Sebastián de Albero, highly regarded during his brief life (he died at the age of 33), remains little known in our time. Musically he could be regarded as a first cousin of Domenico Scarlatti, a colleague at the Spanish court, where Albero was appointed principal organist in 1746. His volume of thirty keyboard sonatas, one of just two works of his that have come down to us, was first published in 1978. Every sonata is a polished and highly original work, and Jacqueline Ogeil sees it as an essential part of her life’s work that this beautiful music should become better known in our time.
Dr Jacqueline Ogeil (B.Mus, B.Mus Ed, M.Mus, PhD) is an internationally respected artistic leader, performer and musicologist with over 20 years experience in education. Founder and Artistic Director of the highly acclaimed Woodend Winter Arts Festival, and Director of the baroque ensemble Accademia Arcadia (finalist for 2007 ARIA award in Classical Music) she was Executive Director of Montsalvat and Director of Duneira
