Perth Concert Hall: Kiangardarup – The Torbay Suite
12 May @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm AWST
Kiangardarup, meaning kangaroo place, is a uniquely West Australian work by Robert Zielinski for violin, wooden flute, cello and bouzouki, inspired by the Torbay Inlet in WA’s Great Southern region.
Kiangardarup – The Torbay Suite comes from the country of the Minang people. An intensely evocative piece that takes the listener on a journey, from the awakening dawn through the heat of the day, to dusk and a still night spent under the Karri forest and stars. This journey finishes by the coals and flames of a campfire.
The Suite was recorded outside by Robert over the course of a year on the violin he made in Torbay in the very places that inspired the piece.
