Violin Sonatas by Douglas Weiland.
In a world-premiere event, experience the complete sonatas of Douglas Weiland along with a newly composed work on Ukrainian folk themes.
Douglas Weiland is the late Sir Neville Marriner’s most-commissioned composer and has been hailed in the international press for his “music of palpable humanity and profound vision.” In 1985, he became one of the founding members of the Australian String Quartet and has since been a major contributor to Australian music.
Internationally acclaimed Melbourne musicians Markiyan Melnychenko (violin) and Rhodri Clarke (piano) present Weiland’s violin sonatas, a world-premiere complete performance of these works with the composer in attendance. In addition to this captivating music, this concert will see the world premiere of a newly written work based on Ukrainian folk themes, written by Weiland for Melnychenko and performed in solidarity with the beleaguered Ukrainian people.
