Opera Australia: My Fair Lady
13 October @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm AEST

Julie Andrews’ acclaimed recreation of the original 1956 Broadway blockbuster makes a welcome return to Sydney, under Karen Johnson Mortimer’s direction, followed by a run in Melbourne. George Bernard Shaw’s tale of a professor of linguistics who bets on his ability to make a Covent Garden flower girl pass as aristocracy has lost none of its acerbic wit with a string of Lerner & Loewe hits including Wouldn’t it be Loverly, I’m Getting Married in the Morning and I Could Have Danced All Night. Claire Lyon plays Eliza Doolittle with Reg Livermore as her father, British actor Nathaniel Parker (The Inspector Lynley Mysteries) as Henry Higgins and Robyn Nevin as his no-nonsense mother.
Limelight Editor’s Choice
Celebrating 70 dazzling years since its Broadway debut, Julie Andrews’ production of Lerner and Loewe’s My Fair Lady returns to the Sydney Opera House.
When Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe premiered their brilliant adaptation of George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion in 1956, it became an instant classic — hailed as “the perfect musical” and winning six Tony Awards.
A 20-year-old Julie Andrews was catapulted to superstardom when she originated the role of Eliza Doolittle — an irrepressible Cockney flower girl who transforms into a lady of society. The man attempting to remake her? The appealingly arrogant phoneticist Henry Higgins, who may just be the one transformed.
A heartwarming story of transformation and identity, My Fair Lady brims with razor-sharp wit, unforgettable characters, and a glorious score including ‘Wouldn’t It Be Loverly?’, ‘I Could Have Danced All Night’ and ‘Get Me to the Church on Time’.
