In recent years Hungarian-born pianist, Julie Adam has been exploring her roots, in particular in the piano music of Béla Bartók. This has led to a recording made in Budapest with Hunnia records, called Land of my early Childhood which has been favourably received. Her new project is looking at different aspects of connection with Bartók: not only the personal connections he had with a number of his contemporaries, such as Kodály and Dohnányi in Hungary but also international connections – Peter Warlock, Frederick Delius and Leopold Godowsky. Another aspect of connections is his huge labour of love collecting folk music with his rather primitive phonograph, working with Kodály and others. In this concert, the Rumanian connection will be explored. The 1300 songs he collected in Rumania was his self-confessed greatest achievement.
