ELISION Ensemble: Silent Noise
18 September @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm AEST

ELISION’s three-year partnership with ANAM has become a meeting point between generations of performers who share a drive to explore new forms of musical expression.
At the centre of Silent Noise is Helmut Lachenmann’s Mouvement (– vor der Erstarrung) (1982–84), a work that transforms the smallest gestures into sound — scraping, breathing, and resonance forming a fragile language at the edge of silence. A new work by Richard Barrett, written in his Codex style and incorporating electronics, continues this exploration of sonic texture and density, featuring both ANAM and ELISION musicians.
The program also highlights the development of a strong improvisation practice at ANAM, a practice nurtured and mentored by ELISION. ANAM musicians will take the reigns and perform an entirely improvised work in this performance, guided by ELISION’s highly-attuned artistic sensibilities.
