Finch St Concerts: String Quartet Concert | A Musical Conversation
26 April @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm AEST

Cedar Collective invites you to an evening where past and present meet through sound. Presented as a special Melbourne preview before performing in Hobart, this program brings together a striking collection of Australian voices, each offering a distinct perspective on the string quartet.
From the vivid, high-energy gestures of Jaslyn Robertson’s Aerobatics to the playful soundscape of Anne Cawrse’s Skittled, the program unfolds with a sense of curiosity and movement. Maria Grenfell’s Silhouettes opens a more reflective, atmospheric space, while Dominic Flynn’s Mill draws on rhythmic drive and texture to propel the music forward.
Interwoven throughout the program are the fiddle tunes of Tasmanian convict composer Alexander Laing (1792 – 1868), offering glimpses into some of Tasmania’s earliest notated compositions. These moments quietly connect the contemporary works to a deeper musical past, creating a dialogue that spans generations.
