The Concourse: Sydney Mozart Society – Flinders Quartet

25 August @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm AEST

Over 25 years challenging and championing the string quartet, Flinders Quartet has won the hearts of audiences as a leading ensemble of artistic integrity.  It is known for its tight ensemble, impeccable intonation, and insightful, deeply human interpretations.  The warmth and generosity of its members shine through every endeavour.  In this programme the Quartet illuminates the development of the string quartet through pieces that each in their unique way were a revolutionary approach to the genre.  Mozart’s K 546 is a bridge between Baroque technique and Classical expression and enchants with intricate counterpoint showing his mastery of the fugue form.  The fourth work in Beethoven’s Opus 18 – while it shows the influence of Haydn and Mozart – exhibits what will become Beethoven’s characteristic emotional intensity and ominous tone.  The concert ends with the flourish that is Beethoven’s profound masterpiece, Opus 127 which represents a shift to a more expansive, reflective and sometimes unconventional form.
