Melbourne Opera: The Marriage of Figaro
24 February @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm AEDT
The Marriage of Figaro unfolds on the wedding day of Susanna and Figaro in the Almaviva household, leading to a tumultuous day filled with twists as the clever servants outmaneuver the Count’s dishonorable intentions towards Susanna.
Adding to the chaos are a page boy’s hormonal antics, a vengeful couple targeting Figaro, a nosy music master, a naughty schoolgirl, a drunken gardener, and a wronged noble Countess.
This results in a comedy of intrigue, misunderstanding, and ultimate forgiveness.
Sung in English, the performance by the Richard Divall Programme showcases emerging opera talents. Set in Downton Abbey style, directed by Suzanne Chaundy, with a chamber orchestra conducted by Raymond Lawrence and Greg Hocking, it offers a unique chance to witness the future stars of opera in an intimate presentation usually reserved for private clubs and homes
