Australian Musical Theatre Festival: The Musical Theatre Mix-Up: The Records That Shaped a Legend

22 May @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm AEST

Boasting more than 40 events over five days, the Australian Musical Theatre Festival returns to Launceston. Carmel Dean’s Well Behaved Women, which shines a light on some of history’s trailblazing women, launches the festival, while the Opening Night Gala features a cast led by Jarrod Draper. The centrepiece is a production of The Frogs by Stephen Sondheim, Burt Shevelove and Nathan Lane. In another highlight, Delia Hannah reflects on her life in Seeing Is Believing, in which she is joined by the festival’s Artistic Director Tyran Parke. Following a sold-out performance last year, the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra returns for the concert Broadway Showstoppers with singers Draper, Hannah, Lisa Crosato, Nadine Garner, Rob Mallett and Lorinda May Merrypor.

AMTF invites audiences into an intimate, unique conversation with one of Australia’s most beloved musical theatre icons, Nancye Hayes AM.

Streaming live via Zoom from Sydney— where she is currently appearing in Anastasia — Nancye joins the Festival as both celebrated artist and cherished patron for a warm, personal exploration of the songs that shaped her remarkable career.

Hosted inside Launceston’s new boutique listening bar, Dill Pickle Club, the event pairs Nancye’s stories with the original cast recordings, vinyl treasures and musical theatre gems that influenced her journey from young hopeful to national treasure. Audiences will hear anecdotes from her six decades on stage, reflections on the artists who inspired her, and behind-the-scenes memories from some of Australia’s most significant productions.
