Jesse Budel: Triptych: Community Halls Reawakened
29 November @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm ACDT

An evening of music, textiles and silent cinema
Triptych: Community Halls Reawakened brings together experimental music, textile art and silent cinema in a celebration of creativity, community and place.
Presented by South Australian composer and sound artist Jesse Budel and Queensland-based artist Joseph Burgess, this touring project reimagines historic community halls as vibrant spaces for contemporary performance.
Across three interconnected works, audiences will experience Budel’s sanctuary × mill, an immersive surround-sound performance with projected visuals exploring the resonances of abandoned pianos; Burgess’s sonotextility, transforming traditional textile-making into live musical expression; and historic silent films from the NFSA’s Corrick Collection, brought to life through improvised accompaniment by local musicians.
Celebrating the release of Budel’s album on acclaimed experimental label Room40, Triptych honours the rich cultural histories of Australia’s community halls while inviting audiences to encounter familiar spaces in unexpected ways, connecting people, places and generations through sound, image and material.
