Angela, can you tell our readers something about the musical journey you are undertaking on your tour – from Mozart’s Fantasie to Bach’s Chromatic Fantasy, and then from Handel’s Chaconne to Brahms’ Variations on a Theme by Handel?

This is simply repertoire that I very much enjoy playing and which I think will make a very satisfying recital programme.

I have just finished recording the complete Mozart Sonatas and Fantasias (the third and final double-CD volume will be available next April), and so it’s music that, not only have I played for most of my life, but which has grown with me over the years.

That is the same for Bach’s Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue. I have performed it for over half a century, but never tire of it. It’s also very dramatic and exciting and reaches a terrific climax to end the first half.

The second part of the recital has Handel (born in the same year as Bach but a very different composer and person) and Brahms taking a piece by Handel as the theme for one of his most monumental and glorious keyboard pieces. Brahms adored Bach, of course,...
