You have to be quick to catch opera singer David Hobson in a stationary moment these days. His 2024 diary, he tells Limelight, “is a bit of a blur”.

We’re speaking with Hobson partway through an Australia-wide tour with comedian Colin Lane, 38 one-night stands that will, once it’s all over, have taken the pair from Mandurah, Western Australia to Burnie, Tasmania.

Then, with just a couple of weeks to draw breath, Hobson will be joining a stellar company of entertainers aboard the passenger ship Carnival Luminosa for the 2024 BRAVO Cruise of Performing Arts.

“This time, I’m an ‘ambassador’,” Hobson says. “I’m not quite sure what that means just yet. How did I get to be one? Do I get a uniform? I really don’t know. Maybe they saw me having too much fun last time.”
