A holiday breaks down into three components. Part A is the anticipation – months of planning and decision-making about where to fly, where to stay and places to see. Then the big day arrives. You fly off and commence Part B, the actual holiday. Then, in Part C, you return and look at the photos and videos you took. Am I alone in now enjoying Parts A and C more than the actual holiday? I love the anticipation and the reliving of the travel, whereas the bit in the middle is a bit of a nuisance.

After a recent trip to Thailand, my wife made an Instagram reel of our favourite moments – a photo of a sunset, a snap of me holding a cocktail, a video of a visit to the fresh food market and a Thai bird sitting on a tree. It seemed a lot of effort for such fleeting memories.
