It’s been a milestone year for Limelight in Australian art music.

In October, Limelight and Cameron Lam launched two initiatives that celebrate Australian composers across the fields of classical and improvised music, jazz and sound art. The first, 25 in 25 saw our readers pick their 25 favourite Australian works, while the Guide to Australian Composers provides a (non-exhaustive) survey of our homegrown compositional landscape, featuring almost 500 tracks.

2025 also saw the launch of our monthly Australian Accent column, which gives an overview of the Australian works being performed live on stage across the country (with a weekly breakdown on our Instagram). We continue to publish Lam’s Australian Art Music Playlist, which celebrated its five-year anniversary in March this year, and unpack Australia’s world premieres in our print magazine and online.

With the festive season upon us, here’s one more (small) present from us to you – an Australian classical Christmas playlist to spin over the holidays.

With a collection of new musical resources at your fingertips (and the news that Australia’s consumption of local music is in rapid decline), there’s no time like now to  open your ears to what’s on around you. Why not make it a New Year’s resolution to find a new favourite Australian artist via our Guide, or to see an Aussie work in your end-of-year wrap-up from your streaming service?

We hope that our efforts this year have inspired you to discover, support and celebrate the incredible talent across our country. From all of us here at Limelight – Merry Christmas, and a happy, musical New Year!
