Jo Litson interviewed a genuine sister act ahead of the revival of the smash-hit musical Wicked when it was announced that siblings Courtney and Emily Monsma would perform alongside each other in what had long been the show of their dreams.

With the release of Todd Haynes’s film Tár, featuring Cate Blanchett as a renowned conductor who falls into professional disgrace, Perth-based composer, conductor and researcher Kate Milligan took the opportunity to turn the spotlight on the professional prospects for women conductor in Australia. “Its arrival in Australian cinemas,” wrote Milligan, “is a timely opportunity to take stock of the state of the local industry and imbue nuance into a conversation that too often devolves into reductive stereotypes and tired assumptions.”
