For its half-century celebrations, MYO is staging a series of site-specific concerts in State Library Victoria during October.

If you go to State Library Victoria in the next few weeks you may suddenly come upon a surprise concert by some of Victoria’s brightest young musicians. To celebrate its 50-year milestone, Melbourne Youth Orchestras (MTO) is staging a five-week programme called Moments of Beauty comprising a series of free concerts in a number of different spaces in the Library from September 27.

Four of MYO’s nine ensembles will take part – the John Antill Youth Band, Melbourne Youth Junior Strings, Melbourne Youth Orchestra Strings and the flagship Melbourne Youth Orchestra. They will perform a number of site-specific concerts for audiences of all ages with family concerts in the Courtyard, chamber music in the Cowan Gallery, and an in-the-round brass presentation in the iconic domed La Trobe Reading Room. Moments of Beauty will culminate with two outdoor presentations of symphonic works played by the Melbourne Youth Orchestra on the steps of the Library’s grand Swanston Street Forecourt during the city’s morning hustle and bustle.
