The 2024 Adelaide Festival will open with a specially commissioned work from Stephen Page – his first since leaving Bangarra Dance Theatre. He tells Jane Albert about finding his feet without the company he led for more than 30 years.

When the sun sets over Adelaide’s Glenelg Beach late next February, a series of arresting, sculptural whale bones will emerge from the twilight. Far from the result of a tragic beaching, they will form the backdrop and stage for a beautiful First Nations creation story that will play out amidst the bones, along the sand and in the ocean, told through the evocative dance theatre language unique to Stephen Page.
