The nominees for this year’s ARIA Awards have been announced. The awards, divided into 21 categories, will be presented in a ceremony on 15 November at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion.

In the art music categories, the Australian Chamber Orchestra has been nominated in the Best Classical Album category for its Indies & Idols release (“a rather startling disc colliding concert hall, cinema soundtrack, indie pop and cutting-edge Polish avant gardism,” wrote Limelight‘s Michael Quinn), alongside Ensemble Offspring (To Listen, To Sing – Ngarra-Burra: First Peoples Composers), Neil Gaiman and Fourplay String Quartet (Signs of Life), Roger Benedict and Simon Tedeschi (Debussy – Ravel) and Genevieve Lacey (and various artists) for Breathing Space.

This year’s Best Jazz Album award will be contested by Lance Gurisik (Cull Portal), Mike Nock (Hearing), Sinj Clarke (The Height of Love), Surprise Chef (Education and Recreation) and The Vampires featuring Chris Abrahams for Nightjar.
