Are you an amateur musician? Have you ever wanted to play in a quartet with some friends, only to find that the highlights of the repertoire are actually quite tricky to play? Well, this might be a competition to keep an eye on.

The Adelaide Chamber Music School has announced a new composition competition aimed at creating new works for capable amateur musicians rather than professionals.

The Adelaide Chamber Music School is encouraging composers to write a string quartet for amateur musicians to perform.

Aspiring composers are invited to write a new string quartet of between five to 15 minutes, intended specifically for community musicians. A prize of $2,500 will be awarded to the winning entry which will subsequently receive its premiere performance at an Adelaide Chamber Music School event, with a Junior Prize of $500 also on offer for the best entry by a composer of under the age of 18.
