Deutsche Grammophon’s latest Vivaldi app presents Four Seasons in two ways.

In the final days of Autumn this year, Deutsche Grammophon launched their new iPad app built around one of the world’s favourite pieces of classical music – Antonio Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.

The app developed out of a partnership between Universal Music’s classical label and London-based app producers Touch Press. Touch Press, who have established a prize-winning reputation in the fields of arts and education, are the team behind The Orchestra, the Esa-Pekka Salonen supported app which has recently been lauded on Apple’s homepage.

The Four Seasons app is built around two contrasting and mutually illuminating interpretations of Vivaldi’s four brilliantly pictorial concertos. The first is an audio-only version, groundbreaking in its day, played on period instruments by violinist Simon Standage and the English Concert under Trevor Pinnock. The second is a HD video performance of a new reimagination of the work, Vivaldi Recomposed, by contemporary British composer Max Richter. The performers here are violinist Daniel Hope and the German-based instrumental ensemble l’arte del mondo, with Max Richter himself on Moog synthesizer.
