Australian double bassist Jason Henery has been appointed as Principal Double Bass of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Henery is a Sydney-born double bassist who recently completed his studies at Philadelphia’s Curtis Institute of Music, where he received the Nina von Maltzahn Fellowship. In 2023, he was awarded first prize in the solo division of the American International Society of Bassists Competition
He was principal double bassist with the Australian Youth Orchestra, where he was awarded the Llewellyn Scholarship, and also undertook study at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
Henery has taken on the position of Guest Principal with orchestras including the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Oslo Philharmonic, the BBC Concert Orchestra and the Oxford Philharmonic. In 2022, he was a semi-finalist in the ABC Young Performers Awards, He was also a finalist in the Alf and Pearl Pollard Award Competition. He was also an Australian World Orchestra Academy Player in 2022 for the orchestra’s UK tour.
