Legendary Romanian pop singer Maria Tanase brought to life in a groundbreaking multimedia performance.

The Balanescu Quartet are set to perform at City Recital Hall in Sydney in a performance of works from their classic 2005 album, Maria T. This innovative multimedia performance will also feature video by renowned Austrian artist, Klaus Obermaier, in what will be a fascinating look at the music of Romania.

The quartet was formed in 1987, and immediately drew attention for their eclectic repertoire and willingness to embrace technology. Since then they have performed in a vast array of different contexts and styles, collaborating with composers such as Michael Nyman (Balanescu for many years being the leader of the famous Michael Nyman Band) and Gavin Bryars, and on other projects with artists such as Kate Bush and Lounge Lizard John Durie, to name a few. They have also recorded numerous original albums, exploring national and social themes.
