SeasonPreview: Your guide to the arts in 2025

Belvoir has announced its 2025 season, a line-up of nine productions comprised of new Australian works, Indigenous stories, literary adaptations and classics reimagined in the company’s distinctive style. Season 2025, says the theatre company’s Artistic Director Eamon Flack, will be another chapter in the “great big ongoing unfinished story” that is Belvoir.

Jacky (16 January – 2 February)

Kicking off the season is Jacky, a Melbourne Theatre Company production co-presented with Sydney Festival. This sharp, Green Room Award-winning play by Declan Furber Gillick follows Jacky, a young blackfella navigating the complexities of city life. The production stars Guy Simon and Greg Stone. Mark Wilson directs.

After seeing the production in Melbourne, Flack says it was a “no brainer” to bring Jacky to Sydney. Guy Simon’s performance in the title role is “exquisite”, Flack says. “I think it’s probably the best thing that he’s done so far in his career. He sits in it with a very deep understanding of the task that he’s carrying as an actor in this story. And Greg Stone is also brilliant,...
