In its Plan for a Sustainable Budget policy costings, the Liberal–Nationals Coalition has proposed redirecting 10 per cent of Creative Australia’s annual funding — currently $312 million — towards the development of a Jewish Arts Quarter in Melbourne and “supporting broadcasting”.
The announcement raises the stakes on an earlier Labor pledge of $18 million for the project.

Planned for a site in Elsternwick, the Jewish Arts Quarter will be a precinct celebrating Jewish arts, culture and food, centred on a new building, JAQ7, designed by architects Fender Katsalidis. The building will house a relocated Jewish Museum of Australia, a new Holocaust museum, the Kadimah Jewish Cultural Centre and National Library, event spaces, and “a community hub”.
No details have yet been released on which broadcasters would benefit from the proposed redirection of Creative Australia funding.
