The centrepiece of the Australian Government’s National Cultural Policy, the establishment of Creative Australia, has been officially launched at an event hosted in Sydney Theatre Company’s Wharf 1 Theatre at Walsh Bay, 24 August.

Also announced were the appointments to the new, 14-member Australia Council Board of Creative Australia. They are: Adrian Collette (CEO); Robert Morgan (Chair), Wesley Enoch (Deputy Chair), Rosheen Garnon, Stephen Found, Christine Simpson Stokes, Philip Watkins, Alexandra Dimos, Caroline Bowditch, Courtney Stewart, Kitty Taylor, Lindy Lee, Caroline Wood and Amanda Jackes.

“The formidable experience and expertise of the appointees will give Creative Australia the governance and insights to inform our strategies, programs and advocacy,” said Collette. “We are delighted that the Minister has increased First Nations’ representation on the Australia Council Board of Creative Australia.  These appointments reflect the diversity of our communities and ensures that practicing artists will be actively involved.”

Creative Australia, said Collette, “will deepen our engagement with artists, and with the vital organisations, businesses and markets that sustain them. We will work with philanthropists and collaborate and co-invest with industry partners. We will deepen our engagement with more diverse audiences in more places. We will be able to do more with more.”
