SeasonPreview: Your guide to the arts in 2025

Dark Mofo has announced its 2025 program, the first fully-fledged midwinter festival under Artistic Director Chris Twite. It comes after Dark Mofo suspended its 2024 program, offering only two events, with a promise to return “full swing” in 2025. And full swing it certainly is.

“Dark Mofo is back,” said Twite. “Once again we will bathe the city in red, filling it with art and taking over disused and hidden spaces all across Nipaluna/Hobart. Night Mass – the late-night labyrinth of revelry – will carve new paths through the city and a host of Australian-exclusive artists from around the world will storm our stages.”

This year’s musical headliner is Beth Gibbons, performing at the Odeon on her first-ever solo Australian tour. A trip-hop pioneer known for her work with Portishead, she last performed in Australia 14 years ago. Her debut solo album Lives Outgrown was released to critical acclaim in 2024.
