A new initiative aimed at tackling racism in the arts sector was launched at the Sydney Opera House on Wednesday 2 April, with the goal of equipping artists, creatives, and organisations with the tools to challenge discrimination and systemic barriers in the industry.
“This campaign is more than a conversation – it’s a call to action,” said Lena Nahlous, CEO of Diversity Arts Australia.
“Through creative expression, education, and advocacy, we’re equipping artists, creatives and organisations with the tools to tackle racism and build a more equitable industry.”

A Framework for Change
At the core of the campaign is the slogan How to be Anti-Racist in the Arts, under which five key actions have been identified to drive meaningful change:
Educate Yourself: Understand how racism operates and honour the experiences of those who have faced it.
Challenge Systems: Advocate for policies that dismantle systemic barriers and promote equity.
Call It Out: Speak up against discrimination.
Check Yourself: Recognise power, privilege, and impact.
Reflect & Recharge: Ensure anti-racism efforts remain sustainable through self-care and community support.
