Following in the recent footsteps of opera singers Sonya Yoncheva and Marina Rebeka, the Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Flórez has announced the establishment of his own record label, Flórez Records.
The label, said Flórez in a press release, will be dedicated to zarzuela, the genre with which he gained a foothold in opera as a young singer.
“These romances full of passion and emotion represent an almost unique opportunity for Spanish and Latin American tenors to sing in their mother tongue,” Florez explained.

The first release will be in autumn 2024 and will mark the tenor’s first recording with Sinfonía por el Perú Youth Orchestra and Choir, an organisation that forms part of Sinfonía por el Perú, a social project Florez founded and continues to support. The first recording will be led by conductor Guillermo García Calvo, Music Director of Madrid’s Teatro de la Zarzuela from 2020 to 2024.
A European tour will follow the album’s release, with performances in Madrid, Paris, Vienna and elsewhere.
