Following the horrific wildfires that tore across the Hawai’ian island of Maui, prominent musicians, artists, and media personalities have united to present Maui Ola: A benefit concert for Maui.

Australia’s Dane Lam, Music Director of the Hawai’i Symphony Orchestra, led his ensemble in the benefit performance on Sunday 20 August, which sought to raise much needed funds for those impacted. At time of writing, 111 people have been confirmed dead in the Maui fires. Hundreds are still unaccounted for.

“The aftermath of the wildfires in Maui have shocked the community with their ferocity and cruelty,” Lam said. “Hawai’i is tight-knit community and this spirit of solidarity and of being good neighbours pervades the islands. I’m a new Hawai’i resident, but the spirit of aloha (so much more than just a greeting), has brought people all over the islands together in supporting their neighbours, their brothers and sisters in Maui.”
