Season Preview: Your guide to the arts in 2026

Sydney’s Hayes Theatre Co has announced its 2026 program: a blend of Broadway favourites, Australian premieres and homegrown shows.

Co-Artistic Directors Richard Carroll and Victoria Falconer revealed the lineup on Monday evening, promising “a season of work that embraces the power of music theatre to surprise, to provoke and to bring people together in joyful, meaningful ways.”

The year opens on 21 January with the world premiere of Barbra: The Greatest Star, a concert tribute to Barbra Streisand directed by Brittanie Shipway.

It will be followed in February and March by the Sydney premiere of the “joyfully queer, high-camp” comedy Head Over Heels, directed by Ellen Simpson, and the Australian premiere of Broadway’s recent cult hit Gutenberg! The Musical!, staged by Carroll and starring Stephen Anderson (Titanique) and Ryan González (In the Heights).
