The cover of this month’s issue is a wonderful watercolour by Hans Lorraine (1923 – 2012) called A Cappella, painted in 2010.
Lorraine was one of Australia’s Dunera Boys. He was interned at the camps in Hay, NSW and Tatura, Victoria, where he spent time with many of the artists, developing his understanding and appreciation of art. He began painting himself in the 1950s.
Lorraine was also an architect and a great lover of music. His daughter Anne Lorraine told us that her father was a Limelight subscriber. We are grateful to Anne and her sister Sue, who run the Warragul Art Studios and WAS Gallery in Victoria, for granting us permission to use A Cappella as our April cover image.

Lorraine’s painting relates to our feature, The Dunera Mass, by Nicole Forsyth.
Max-Peter Meyer was another Dunera Boy and some of the music he composed on board HMT Dunera and while interned – including the Dunera Mass – is to be performed at a concert at the Canberra International Music Festival.
