With the upcoming Canberra International Music Festival in mind, Limelight’s April issue cover story is devoted to one of the more unusual and intriguing art music events you’ll see this year. Limelight’s Maddy Briggs talks to the trailblazing French bagpiper Erwan Keravec as he prepares to bring a group of pipers to Canberra to perform a series of unique arrangements of music by US composer Philip Glass, among other repertoire.

This month, we also celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of the French composer Maurice Ravel. Ahead of an avalanche of performances of his works across Australia, our London-based Editor-at-Large Clive Paget talks to American conductor Robert Treviño and French pianist Bertrand Chamayou about Ravel’s music and how a famously private and modest man (who once insisted, “I am not one of the great composers”) went on to emerge as one of the most distinctive musical voices of his generation.

Paget also interviews leading American countertenor Reginald Mobley ahead of his Australian tour with Bach Akademie Australia about discovering his marvellous voice and his fears for a future under Trump.
