Australian violinist Josephine Chung has taken home Second Place at the 2025 Markneukirchen International Instrumental Competition for Violin. She receives €5,000, (AUD$,8745) and accessories from German string manufacturer Pirastro.

Chung was also awarded the Max Reger Prize, given to the musician who preforms the best rendition of a work by the German composer, with an additional €1,000 ($1,749) prize.
“[Chung] was able to musically convince the audience with her wonderful tone, dynamic and profound interpretation and her great understanding of the work,” said the competition judging panel in its press release.

Chung is a 26-year-old alum from the Australian National Academy of Music. Now based in Berlin, she is studying a Master of Music at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin.
She has performed as a soloist with the Melbourne, Tasmanian and Willoughby Symphony Orchestras. In 2022, she was selected as an Australian Chamber Orchestra Emerging Artist.
