Responding to a stellar year of concerts and recitals by local and international artists, Limelight readers came out in near record numbers to have their say. 

As in 2023, when Sir Simon Rattle was awarded Limelight’s Critics’ Choice and the People’s Choice for International Artist of the Year, one artist has dominated the voting. The London-based Australian pianist Jayson Gillham has won both the Critics’ Award and the People’s Choice Award – the latter by a very considerable margin. 

The People’s Choice Award for International Artist of the 2024 is, perhaps, less controversial. It goes to the German countertenor Andreas Scholl.

Limelight’s Critics’ Choice Award for International Artist goes to the British tenor Allan Clayton, the star of director Neil Armfield’s Sydney revival of Brett Dean and Matthew Jocelyn’s opera Hamlet.
