The New South Wales government claims to have “shredded” a raft of regulations that have put pressure on the viability of live music venues across the state.

The Vibrancy package that passed in the NSW Parliament on Tuesday seeks to encourage the creation of more local entertainment zones and prevent single complainants from shutting down venues.

Among improvements immediately applicable are a liquor licensing overhaul that allows venues hosting live music or performance to trade for an extra two hours on performance nights and take advantage of an 80 percent discount on their liquor license fees.

Further incentives will be made available to venues hosting live music or performance in Special Entertainment Precincts, who will be allowed trade an extra hour on all days of the week. Sunday trading hours are to be extended to midnight for all venues, bringing Sunday in line with other days of the week.

Small bars will now be permitted to open from 10am, enabling them to host brunch and other diversified services for customers. From 1 January, temporary provisions allowing outdoor dining on private land can be made permanent with no Development Application...
