Forty years ago, the French Ministry of Culture designed a day of music. But not a day to listen, or to watch – this was a day for everyone to join in themselves, to celebrate the joy and sense of community that comes from performing music, whether you are a professional virtuoso or an enthusiastic amateur.

Now, Make Music Day is celebrated in over 120 countries, with everyone from major performing arts organisations to local councils to conservatoriums throwing open their doors and inviting people to join in and make some noise.

In Australia, Make Music Day is presented by the Australian Music Association and the NAMM Foundation, and there is bound to be something happening near you, whether you are in Byron Bay or WA.

Here are just some of the exciting events taking place tomorrow.
