In a major milestone, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra will appear in London’s prestigious BBC Proms this August, performing under Chief Conductor Jaime Martín at the Royal Albert Hall.
It will be the MSO’s second BBC Proms after debuting there in 2014.
The invitation to the Proms – a highlight of the international classical music calendar – is a coup for the MSO, which last toured Europe over a decade ago. “It’s an incredible opportunity for the MSO to perform at Royal Albert Hall for such a revered musical event,” said Martín.

The Proms program features Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1, with star Georgian pianist Khatia Buniatishvili, alongside Dvořák’s Symphony No. 6 and Haunted Hills, a 1950 orchestral work by pioneering Australian composer Margaret Sutherland.
The tour opens on 22 August at the Edinburgh International Festival with the world premiere of Treaty, a new MSO commission by Yorta Yorta composer Deborah Cheetham Fraillon, featuring Kalkadunga yidaki master William Barton. Also on the program are Elgar’s In the South and Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition.
