Season Preview: Your guide to the arts in 2024

Six premieres, five programs, and one interstate debut: Omega Ensemble has announced its 2024 season.

Across the year, the accomplished chamber group is set to tour between Sydney and Melbourne – with one program that reaches to Newcastle and Penrith – with concerts celebrating modern music, contextualised by its trademark flair for the classics.

Omega Ensemble will also make its Brisbane debut on 24 May, performing works by Holly Harrison, Shostakovich and Elena Kats-Chernin at the QSO Studio series.

Playing in Melbourne and Sydney from 13-17 February is Échappsodie. The program borrows its title from a work by Australian composer Alice Chance, who engages Debussy’s Première Rhapsodie in direct conversation by toying with its melodic material. Originally commissioned in 2022 for clarinettist Oliver Shermacher and the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra, Omega has commissioned a new arrangement of the work, with Omega’s Artistic Director David Rowden...
