Artistic Directors Peter Coleman-Wright and Cheryl Barker have today revealed the inaugural recipient of the Pacific Opera Studio International Scholarship.
Tasmanian-born soprano Sophie Mohler has been awarded the $50,000 scholarship. It will provide funds for Mohler’s travel to the UK to perform a role for Diva Opera that will tour across the UK and South Africa, as well as professional development and a study plan while she resides in Europe.

Mohler holds a Master of Musical Studies (Opera Performance) from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and was awarded a PATIM scholarship, the Helen Meyers Scholarship and a Sydney Scholars scholarship to support her studies in music. She previously served as a member of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra Chorus and was a finalist in the 2021 Demant Dreikurs Lieder Competition. She is a Young Artist at Pacific Opera Studio’s 2024 season.
Sydney-based mezzo-soprano Elizabeth Cooper has also been awarded the $20,000 Judges’ Award, funding her study and audition fees overseas.
