New allegations of sexual misconduct have been raised against the Spanish tenor Plácido Domingo, this time emanating from his home country.

Aired on Sunday evening by an unnamed singer speaking to La Sexta’s Salvados programme, the accusations described incidents experienced some two decades previously. In an interview which did show the woman’s face and heavily disguised her voice, the woman recalled episodes of inappropriate behaviour and sexual harassment.

The accusations come three years after a 2020 investigation by the American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA), whose findings prompted major companies to cancel performances by the opera star. Domingo also resigned as general director of the Los Angeles Opera, after the company’s own enquiry into his behaviour found  allegations against him to be “credible.”

No criminal proceedings were launched against Domingo, who said in a statement released at the time that: “I respect that these women finally felt comfortable enough to speak out, and I want them to know that I am truly sorry for the hurt that I caused them.”
