Canberra’s Snow Concert Hall has announced its 2027 international concert season, bringing together artists including pianists Paul Lewis and Simon Crawford-Phillips, violinists Ray Chen and Francesca Dego, violist Lawrence Power, French harpistXavier de Maistre and the globally celebrated soprano Sumi Jo.

Curated by Snow Concert Hall’s Artistic Director Ana de la Vega, the state-of-the-art venue’s fifth international series will open with Lewis and Australia’s Orava Quartet in Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5, ‘Emperor’, and Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23.

The season continues with Ray Chen making his Snow Concert Hall debut in a program pairing Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons with Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla’s own four-season works. The pairing places Vivaldi’s Baroque depiction of nature alongside Piazzolla’s Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas, written in the 1960s and 1970s and infused with the rhythms and colours of tango.

Lawrence Power and Simon Crawford-Phillips will present chamber arrangements of Romantic and 20th-century works, drawing on music that has been significant to their long-running collaboration.

French harpist de Maistre will then bring his distinctive approach to the instrument to Canberra, performing music by Debussy and Fauré. The program will explore familiar repertoire through the sound of the harp, an instrument de Maistre has helped expand through arrangements and new commissions.

The season also features Wigmore Hall London’s Artist in Residence, violinist Francesca Dego, alongside Australian pianist Andrea Lam. Their program pairs Beethoven’s monumental ‘Kreutzer’ Sonata with Ravel’s virtuosic Tzigane.

The 2027 season concludes with an operatic program featuring soprano Sumi Jo, with music by Mozart, Rossini and Strauss.

Snow Concert Hall, a 936-seat auditorium located within the grounds of Canberra Grammar School in Red Hill, opened in August 2022 and has since presented international artists including The King’s Singers, VOCES8, Freiburg Baroque Orchestra and trumpeter Wynton Marsalis, alongside pianists Benjamin Grosvenor, Piers Lane, Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, and Lucas and Arthur Jussen.
