ABC1’s upbeat music quiz show calls it quits after seven years.

The hosts of popular music trivia show Spicks and Specks have said ‘thank you for the music’, calling it quits at the end of 2011 after seven years on air and more than 150 special guests from all walks of musical life.

Admired for its creative, colourful format and its revolving door of international music greats both on the buzzer and in performance, the program attracted an average weekly audience of 1.35 million viewers last year, garnering an  AFI award for best light entertainment series in 2009.

“We always said we wanted to leave when we were on top and while we were still having fun, and now feels like the right time,” said host and comedian Adam Hills in a statement.

“Spicks and Specks is more than just a quiz show. It’s got joy at its heart, and for that reason it attracts three generations of viewers,” added ABC TV head of arts and entertainment Amanda Duthie.
