Western Australia’s Labor Government has promised it will begin construction on a 20,000-seat music bowl in the heart of Perth – if it is reelected in the upcoming State Election on 8 March.

The outdoor amphitheatre would stand as the city’s biggest, modelled to be “similar to Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne”, wrote Deputy Premier Rita Saffioti in a Facebook post last week.

“It’s all part of WA Labor’s plan to drive visitation and tourism, create local jobs and diversify our economy.”

The amphitheatre is part of a larger $217.5m plan for a new entertainment district at Burswood Park from the Cook Labor Government. Named the Perth Street Circuit, the district would also include a motorsports street circuit inspired by facilities in Townsville and the Gold Coast, as well as multi-purpose event spaces. The circuit would be set for completion in 2027, and the district would host events including “cycling criteriums, running festivals, motorsport events and live music”.
