Season Preview: Your guide to the arts in 2024

 

The program for the 2024 Sydney International Women’s Jazz Festival (SIWJF) has been announced. Between 24 October and 3 November, the festival will air more than 60 groundbreaking acts in seven venues across the city, from Sydney’s Inner West, to Manly and Penrith.

“The SIWJF is a testament to the power of women in shaping the world of music,” said Artistic Director (and bassist) Zoe Hauptmann. “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to present the future of Australian jazz to Sydney. SIWJF continues to showcase the most talented, inspiring and creative musicians from home and abroad.”

This year’s headliner is American jazz and scat vocalist Jazzmeia Horn. The twice Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter last sang in Australia in 2017 during a South Australian performance for Generations in Jazz. Backed by keyboardist Victor Gould, bassist Jonathan Swartz and drummer Hamish Stewart, Horn performs at St Stephen’s Uniting Church on 1 November.

St Stephen’s will also host Japanese-born, Melbourne-based multi-instrumentalist Noriko Tadano, performing alongside dancer and drummer Sayaka Ohno. On the same 2 November bill...
